Boomerang Carnets® Celebrates a CPD Milestone
Boomerang carnets® is celebrating its 5-year anniversary of issuing CPDs for Canada and the U.S. A CPD is a travel document known formally as Carnet de Passages en Douane but also known as a “vehicle passport” for road vehicles. For countries who participate in the CPD system, the “vehicle passport” allows any registered vehicle to cross international borders import-duty and -tax free. Boomerang carnets® was appointed by the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) in 2015 to be the issuing association for CPDs in the U.S. and Canada and is the first and only non-automobile association and private company to be awarded this appointment.
The CPD was created in 1911 and first used in 1913 to offer an unencumbered way for motor vehicles to bypass any customs formalities imposed by countries when temporarily travelling across borders. It is now accepted and recognized in the five continents and regularly used by the many travelers using motorcycles, overland vehicles, trailers, caravans, and cars to trek the globe for any number of reasons.
We are proud and honored to be part of this long timeline of CPDs providing ease and economy through customs and promoting free movement across international borders. We give our thanks to all the adventurers who take their vehicles around the world. It is important also to note that CPDs can and are often used in conjunction with ATA Carnets, (something that we can also take care of for you), which allows for the temporary passage of goods and equipment across borders import-duty and -tax free with the same ease through customs.
If you foresee a CPD in your future, or have any questions about CPDs, call our CPD expert Shannon Thompson and she will be happy to assist you. She can be reached at (847) 852-3195 or via email.
